Weekend Getaway in Chandratal with Jeep Safari

Fondly called as the “Moon Lake”, Chandratal is one of the splendours of Himalayas! The beauty of the Himalayan Lake will do nothing but bewitch you with its changing colors from dusk to dawn. With the shades of brown and white, the lake perfectly blends with the surroundings and looks surreal. Take a tour to Chandratal Lake and get the best of nature in Himachal Pradesh. Weekend Getaway in Chandratal with Jeep Safari is the chance for you to explore this wonder of the Himalayas.

Spiti Valley has recently seen an increase in tourism, and this place is worth a visit at least once in a lifetime. Chandratal, one of the untouched regions in Himachal Pradesh, is a paradise for trekkers and campers, and it is only accessible for few months in a year. It will be an amazing experience to see the crystal clear lake of sweet water change its color from shades of blue to shades of green. Earlier, the lake was one of the places which were accessible only by trekking, but in the last few years the road conditions have improved and it’s accessible by car.

Trekking is one of the best ways to go up there, as the silence and the serenity of the place will leave you in peace. As Chandratal is one of the most remote regions of the Himalayas, our aim would be to keep the environment clean. We will make sure that we minimize the use of carbon and plastic, and help reduce its impact on ecosystem. Communities and people who live here have limited resources due to the harsh climatic conditions and accessibility issues, so it’s our responsibility to travel in ways that support the environment, create awareness about eco- tourism and contribute to the greater good of the community. We can contribute by staying in the local home stays, not depending on firewood, by not littering the place, and by saying no to plastic.

Take this weekend getaway to Chandratal with us and experience nature like never before. Explore more trekking options in Spiti Valley

We will start our day early and start riding from Manali to Kunzum Pass crossing Rohtang Pass. The journey will be one of the most scenic ones in Himachal Pradesh, with the mesmerising views of snow- capped peaks all around. Kunzum Pass is the bridge between Lahaul and Spiti Valleys. We will also make sure that we drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and acclimatize to the high altitude to avoid Acute Mountain Sickness, commonly known as AMS. After crossing Chhatru, we will stop at Batal to have lunch at Chandra Dhaba which is run by the famous couple, fondly called Chacha Chachi, who were recognized by the Government of India for saving lives of 110 people in 2010 during the Uttarakhand floods. Read more here. If you want you can choose to trek from Kunzum Pass to the Chandratal Lake which is about 13 KMS and it will take around 4-5 hours. We will reach the campsite early evening which is about 11 KMS from Batal, and stay overnight.

Day 03: Chandratal Circle
It will be the best time of our lives, to spend the whole day by the lake and witness the shades of mystical Chandratal. We will take a walk around Chandratal which is about 4 KMS and capture those magical moments when the lake acts as a mirror to the mountains. It surely is a photographer’s wonderland. Return to the campsite to spend the night under the diamonds like stars and inky blue sky!
